Mollie Katz thrives on working with words. She is a multimedia communications strategist with more than 20 years of experience. She was drawn to a PR career, convinced that words and ideas that look and sound right can make a difference.
Mollie has often communicated on health, science and philanthropy issues. Her career includes roles at large and small public relations firms and within nonprofits. She has also advised small businesses on marketing communications.
In the health arena, she has promoted issues such as pain management, rare and chronic diseases, mental health, aging and end-of-life care. Mollie is equally adept working with specialized health professionals and helping patients and families tell their own stories. Her science communications experience includes environmental issues such as solid waste management, plastics recycling and the environmental impact of chlorine.
Mollie also brings broad knowledge of philanthropy and nonprofits. At Burness, a small PR firm serving only nonprofit clients, she researched issues of concern to nonprofits and foundations on behalf of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Urban Institute Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy. In her work on health issues at Burness, she also represented The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Nathan Cummings Foundation and the Mayday Fund.
Earning her degree from Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism taught her an understanding of news, research and writing. Working in the Washington office of Ketchum, a national and international PR agency, shaped her brainstorming and strategic skills.
Mollie values creative thinking. She sees strategic communications as a way to solve problems. She finds developing ideas from the concept stage to reality especially rewarding.
